Intro to Java Mentor
Nelson Nishio
Nelson is a sophomore at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley in San Jose, California. This is his first year at LoL and he is really excited to continue teaching at LoL. At school, Nelson took AP Computer Science A in freshman year and got a 5. He is fluent in C++ as well as Java, and knows some python. Outside of school, he is preparing for the USACO competition and currently knows all algorithms until Silver division and some from Gold. In the past, he has participated in ACSL Junior division and qualified for finals.
Before joining LoL, Nelson spent his freshman year teaching English grammar/reading to a student in China. From his experience as a teacher, he improved his teaching skill and hopes to continue to improve while teaching at LoL. Last year, he had 107 hours of volunteering, earning the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (Gold).
Apart from coding or academics, Nelson enjoys biking and playing volleyball. He is fluent in both Japanese and Mandarin, taking Mandarin at school/after-school from kindergarten and having went to a full-day Japanese school every Saturday from first to ninth grade. During ninth grade, he won a Gold award from the Chinese Language Association of Secondary-Elementary Schools Essay Contest for the high school division.

Ryan Wong
Ryan Wong is a senior at El Camino High School. He took his first LoL class in his freshman year, and had a passion for computer science ever since. He then decided to join the team as a TA in his junior year. He is an American Computer Science League Intermediate Finalist for 2022 and 2023, and enjoys solving coding problems online. In his spare time, he plays tennis and chess.

Jason Nishio
Jason Nishio is a sophomore at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley. He has been in LoL since summer 2023. He has participated in competitions such as USACO and ACSL and is interested in computer engineering. Jason enjoys playing basketball, volleyball, biking, and swimming.
